As a mother of two adoptees,
my experience is both personal and professional.
Initially, there are various reasons people consider adoption. Then, the process itself can be challenging, due to it’s complicated nature. Sometimes other family members may not be understanding, or as supportive as we would like. Also raising an adopted child, can have its own unique challenges, as well as being a unique blessing. At times we are faced with other’s misconceptions of why we’ve chosen to adopt, which may not actually have much to do with our choice.
The adoptee themselves may have many of their own questions, concerns, and issues.
Any component of adoption can be fraught with emotions and thoughts that are challenging to navigate. I’m in a unique position to understand the many aspects of adoption, and welcome the opportunity to provide counseling to those involved in this very special process.
